Credit Transfer Agreement with University
of New Brunswick
July 25, 2003 (revised April 28, 2005)
The Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage in Fredericton, New
Brunswick is pleased to announce the implementation of a credit
transfer agreement with the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University
of New Brunswick.
Under the agreement, students who complete the 18 month program
at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage will have the opportunity
to enter the program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology
degree at UNB, with approximately two years of transfer credits.
This will enable the students to obtain a BScKin degree after approximately
two more years of study at UNB.
Nadine Currie-Jackson, President of the Atlantic College of Therapeutic
Massage, is excited about this agreement. "We have worked closely
with the UNB Faculty of Kinesiology to ensure that our graduates
have the education and training equivalent to sixty-five (65) credit hours of the degree program. This will be a natural progression
for many of our graduates, to complete their university degree in
two years, following their course of studies at the Atlantic College",
states Ms. Currie-Jackson. Ms. Currie-Jackson, herself a graduate
of the UNB Kinesiology program and a member of the advisory committee
to the Bachelor of Science Program in Kinesiology, has developed
the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage to meet the highest
standards in the profession. Ms. Currie-Jackson states:
"We are not aware of any other school of massage therapy in
Canada with a credit transfer arrangement with a university. We
truly appreciate the cooperation and acceptance shown by the UNB
Faculty of Kinesiology".
The credit transfer agreement also works to the benefit of graduates
with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Such graduates are eligible
to enter an accelerated program at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic
Massage, reducing their period of studies at the College from 18
months to 15 months.
The credit transfer agreement is an initial six year commitment
between the University of New Brunswick and the Atlantic College
of Therapeutic Massage.
2005 University of New Brunswick Sport Clinic
The Student Sports Clinic at the University of New Brunswick is
continuing to prove successful for ACTM students and UNB athletes
alike.
Thom Gillespie, Coach of the UNB Varsity Reds Basketball team,
wrote to ACTM on February 21, 2005 saying:
"Students from the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage
are well prepared by outstanding instructors for a variety of clients.
The diversity of their learning experience will enable them to improve
the quality of life for the average individual as well as enhance
the sport performance of elite athletes and assist with their rehabilitation
programs."
On February 9, 2005 ACTM received the following note from Lindsay
("Lou") Walsh, a member of the UNB Women's Varsity Reds
Basketball team:
"I have nothing but great things to say about the massage
therapy students (from ACTM) and their excellent work week after
week.
Being a varsity athlete brings with it the wear, tear and fatigue
of muscles and joints. I personally experience chronic low back
pain, however, with the help of various treatment techniques provided
by the students on a weekly basis, I am able to maintain a healthy
balance which ultimately allows me to compete daily.
With the applied knowledge, education and skill of these students
and their supervisor, they have become a major factor in my being
able to compete over the course of an entire season."
